In accordance with the Jiangsu University Regulations on Postgraduate Supervisors, and with reference to the Detailed Rules for Confirming Postgraduate Supervision Quotas for Master’s Students of Agricultural Engineering Discipline, Class of 2024, College of Agricultural Engineering, the following detailed rules for supervisor supervision quotas for master’s students of the Ecology Discipline have been formulated upon joint discussion among supervisors of the Ecology Discipline.

I. Qualification Review for Master’s Supervisor Appointment

As of September 1, 2024, supervisors shall possess valid research funds: Professors (senior professional title) shall have no less than 100,000 RMB in research funds; all other supervisors shall have no less than 50,000 RMB. Supervisors with no ongoing research projects shall submit documentary proof of surplus research funds (no less than 15,000 RMB per student).

II. Basic Supervision Quota

All master’s supervisors who qualify for appointment in the current year shall be granted a basic supervision quota of 1 student in principle, regardless of whether they hold a full senior professional title or an associate senior professional title.

If a supervisor’s supervised postgraduate produces one unqualified master’s dissertation during the 2023–2024 academic year, the supervisor shall only retain the basic quota with no additional quota available. Any supervisor subject to admission suspension in line with the Jiangsu University Regulations on Postgraduate Supervisors shall be prohibited from recruiting new postgraduates for one academic year.

III. Incentive Quota Based on Research Projects

Additional supervision quotas may be granted based on the number of principal research projects undertaken, with a maximum of 2 extra quotas per supervisor on top of the basic quota. Specific requirements are specified as follows:

Undertaking one vertical research project with funds allocated to Jiangsu University amounting to no less than 500,000 RMB entitles the supervisor to 1 to 2 additional quotas (the same project shall not be counted repeatedly), and quotas may be accumulated accordingly. Vertical research projects scheduled to be concluded by the end of December 2024 shall not be eligible for additional supervision quotas.

Supplementary provisions on project recognition: Eligible projects refer to all research projects with funds credited to the college and included in the college’s annual performance assessment (including newly approved projects with funds credited between the current year and August 2024), as well as talent programs at or above the provincial and ministerial level. Projects participated in solely as an individual contributor shall not be counted for additional quotas. For provincial-level collaborative research projects involving multiple participating institutions, Jiangsu University must serve as the applicant institution, and the supervisor must be listed as a co-principal investigator or rank second overall on the project team to qualify.

IV. Special Incentive Quota for Postgraduate Teaching and Discipline Development

Supervisors whose supervised students win the University Excellent Master’s Dissertation Award for the 2023–2024 academic year shall be eligible for a special incentive quota.
